Cat Soup Anyone?

When I was in college, I met my partner, let's call him James, through a mutual friend. We hit it off immediately and started dating shortly after. One day, James invited me to his house for dinner, and I was excited to meet his family.

We arrived at his house, and his mom greeted us at the door. She was very sweet and welcoming, but as soon as we walked in, I could tell something was off. There were pictures of cats everywhere - on the walls, on the shelves, even on the tableware. I'm talking about every breed of cat you could imagine, from tabbies to Siamese cats. I tried to keep a straight face and not make any comments about the cat overload, but James's mom was quick to point out that she was a cat enthusiast. She even had a few cats of her own, which made me a bit nervous since I'm allergic to cats.

As we sat down for dinner, James's mom brought out a plate of food that looked like meatballs. I took a bite, and it was delicious - but something was off. I couldn't quite put my finger on it until James's mom proudly announced that it was her famous cat meatballs.

I was horrified, and James could tell by the look on my face that I was not enjoying my meal. He quickly made up an excuse for us to leave, and we rushed out of the house.

On the drive back to my dorm, we laughed about the ridiculousness of the situation. James apologized profusely and promised that he would never subject me to anything like that again.

Years later, James and I are still together, and we often joke about that infamous dinner at his mom's house. We've even made up a silly code word for cat-related situations to use when we're out in public to avoid any awkwardness.

Looking back, that night was one of the funniest and most memorable moments of our relationship. It just goes to show that sometimes, the weirdest situations can make for the best stories but honestly, it's been years later and I'm still not too sure if she was joking about it being cat soup or not... 😳
